Splashbacks and upstands in Loughborough
Upstands and splashbacks protect the wall and make a stone worktop look finished. For Loughborough kitchens we cut them from the slab used for the worktop so colour and pattern carry on up the wall, either alongside new worktops or added later on their own.
- Same stone as the worktop
- No grout to scrub
- Cut round sockets
Three heights
Upstands are low, around 50 to 100 mm, and close the gap along the back of the worktop. A cooker splashback rises behind the hob, often to the hood. Full-height panels cover everything between worktop and wall cupboards, and can even run to the ceiling. Most kitchens use a combination.
Easier than tiles
Stone and porcelain panels have no grout to discolour, so cleaning behind the sink and hob takes seconds. Matching the worktop, they make the kitchen look like one continuous surface. We cut openings for sockets, switches and spurs.
Behind a cooker
Check the hob maker’s instructions on distances and wall materials, particularly for gas. Granite and porcelain handle heat best. Quartz is often used too, provided the specified gap is kept, since its resin does not like direct heat. We confirm this before cutting.
Common questions
Can you add panels to worktops I already have?
Yes, matching or contrasting with your existing stone.
Do sockets have to move?
Rarely; we cut round them. One sitting across the edge of a panel may need an electrician first.
Matching window sill?
Yes, a sill from the same stone is a popular finish.
