We template
With the cabinets installed and level, we record the room in detail: walls, corners and every opening.
We cut
Our workshop wet-cuts the slab to those measurements, including every hole, edge and groove.
We install
The stone is set in place and finished; then your sink and hob can go back on. Each stage explained.
Charnwood is granite country
Just south of Loughborough, the Mountsorrel quarry covers around 785,000 square metres and produces about 3 million tonnes of granite a year, making it one of the largest granite quarries in Europe. Swithland slate from the Charnwood hills roofed local houses until the mid-19th century and still marks headstones in churchyards across Leicestershire. A stone kitchen sits well in a place built from its own rock. See granite worktops. Source: Wikipedia, Mountsorrel; Swithland.
Moderately hard water
Severn Trent supplies Loughborough. On its own scale, water between 151 and 200 mg/l is moderately hard, and independent postcode data puts LE11 at around 172 mg/l. That means less limescale than in many parts of England, but enough to crust around taps. Quartz, granite and porcelain are not harmed by it; acidic descalers will etch marble. Our cleaning guide covers each stone. Source: Severn Trent; waterhard.uk.
Conservation areas in and around Loughborough
Charnwood Borough Council has 38 conservation areas, eight of them in Loughborough itself, including Church Gate, Queens Park, Ashby Road and Victoria Street, plus villages such as Quorn, Mountsorrel and Shepshed. Designation is about the street scene, so an interior worktop in an unlisted home is unaffected. Owners of listed buildings should seek the council’s advice before altering a historic interior. Thousands of new homes to the west
Garendon Park, on the west side of Loughborough, has planning for 3,200 homes, two primary schools and a new link road between the A512 and A6. New homes usually arrive with standard worktops, and stone can go onto those cabinets once you have moved in. Source: Charnwood Borough Council.

Questions people ask
Do you install kitchen cabinets?
We concentrate on the stone: worktops, islands, upstands, splashbacks, sills and vanity tops. Cabinets go in first, usually via your kitchen fitter, and we measure when they are secure.
How do I get a price?
Call 01509 453341 or use the short form. Rough dimensions plus your preferred stone is all we need to start.
Which stone should I go for?
Quartz if you want the least upkeep; granite for natural stone that copes with heat; porcelain for sunny rooms and hot pans; marble if you love it and accept it will age. The guides explain more.
Can you do just the worktops?
Yes, provided the cabinets underneath are sound and level.
