Quartz worktops in Loughborough
More Loughborough kitchens end up with quartz than with any other stone we offer. It looks clean and modern, the colour is identical from one slab to the next, and upkeep is a damp cloth. We come out to measure your room, cut the quartz to those measurements and install it, from a single run on your current units to a whole new kitchen with an island.
- Zero sealing, ever
- Slabs match across long runs
- Reduced-silica ranges
Is quartz the right choice for you?
Probably, if the kitchen gets used every day and you want a surface you never have to think about. Households with children, landlords and people who cook a lot tend to land on quartz. It is at its best in solid whites, soft greys and concrete-style finishes, and an undermount sink with grooves routed beside it looks especially sharp in it.
It is a weaker fit for a room that bakes in sun all afternoon, such as a garden room or a covered terrace, because long exposure to UV can yellow some binders. For those, look at porcelain.
Why it never needs sealing
Quartz is mostly crushed natural quartz held together by a resin binder, pressed into slabs at the factory. The binder leaves no pores, so oil, wine and coffee have nowhere to go. And because every slab follows the same recipe, a design you like on a sample is the design you get, with no shade shift where two slabs meet.
The one thing to avoid
Sudden heat. A pan straight off the ring or a tray from a hot oven can scorch the resin or, in the worst case, crack the slab. Keep a trivet beside the hob and that is the end of the matter.
Quartz and silica
Standard engineered quartz is extremely rich in crystalline silica, and the fine dust from cutting it causes serious lung disease in stoneworkers. Once installed, your worktop releases no dust and is no risk to anyone at home. Since May 2026 the Health and Safety Executive has said plainly that cutting engineered stone dry is not acceptable; wet cutting is the legal standard. Lower-silica and silica-free quartz ranges exist from several brands; ask about them when we price your job. Background in is quartz safe?
20 mm or 30 mm, and which edge
A 20 mm slab suits slim, handleless kitchens; 30 mm looks substantial on long runs and islands. You can have the chunky look on a 20 mm slab with a mitred front, where an extra strip is bonded underneath. For busy kitchens, a gently rounded or chamfered edge stands up to knocks better than a crisp square arris.
Common questions
Does quartz stain?
Rarely. Spills sit on top until wiped. Keep bleach and harsh solvents off it, not food.
Can it go onto the units I have now?
In most kitchens. We confirm the cabinets are level, solid and anchored when we come to measure. See replacement worktops.
Will I see the joins?
Only up close. The seam is a hairline filled with resin tinted to the slab, and an even pattern hides it well. You approve where it goes before we cut.
Is it safe with children around?
Yes. The silica issue concerns the people cutting the slab, not anyone using it.
